OLED Vs QLED – What Is The Difference?

August 18, 2017 By Kenny

When we buy any modern gadget, we always like to rely on the latest technology to get the maximum amount of convenience. So, while searching for the television set, we want to have the best screen that makes all the pictures lively to us. In fact, LED televisions, with customizable abilities, are highly popular to lots of people. However, as we are discussing on LED, we may reveal two diverse options- QLED and OLED. It is the mode of delivering image, which has made them different.

The term, QLED has been coined by the brand, Samsung, for the purpose of marketing a special kind of technology. LED is applicable for touching quantum dot layers, which shine at various wavelengths of different lights for the creation of a desired color. You can then see the image on your LCD section.

On the other hand, for OLED, the letter- O denotes organic. The technology requires the use of electricity for triggering every OLED to generate light and color. While there is no light, everything is black. The OLED, present behind your TV screen, stands for a pixel, responsible for the improvement of clarity of pictures. OLED is such a technology, where you may find the use of carbon-based layer, inserted between conductors, allowing current to flow through them.

Color of picture- Which technology presents the better one

It is not easy to make out the particular screen that maintains the color precision. Sometimes, the television companies try to twist the settings of their products prior to delivering them to any store. But, both the technologies offer good color of pictures, retaining the level of brightness. With OLED, the saturation of color is wonderful. Simultaneously, QLED also represents color with its unique technology.

Screen type and size- Compatible with the technologies

While speaking about the size, it is better to know whether the screen is large or small. In this case, OLED is more preferable option because of the compatibility to big and small gadgets. OLED systems are found in many models of Smartphone as well, where the screen dimension may be about five inches. They also work better with bigger TV screen, which is about seventy seven inches. QLED is also applicable for all sizes of screen; however, it is not much popular till now.

OLED

Pros

  • Thinner and lighter than other standard LED setups
  • Angles for viewing are wider
  • Timing for response is fast

Cons

Costly production, causing a rise in the price of OLED televisions

QLED

Pros

  • Able to create image of wonderfully brighter colors
  • QLED televisions may hit from 1,500 to 2,000 nits
  • The technology activates and deactivates every pixel individually.

Cons

  • QLED television is not able to produce light individually. Rather, they just turn out backlight, passing through it.

Thus, the above differences may help many people to make a decision on choosing the TV technology that suits well for their purpose. In addition to the stated features, you may also consider the price while buying any device.
